Indian T20 League 2024 Auction: Complete squad of all ten teams

The IPL auction 2024 saw history being created.

The IPL Auction is a crucial event for ten franchises as a single shrewd pick there can propel them to championship glory, while a misstep can condemn them to another year of shadows. In this annual ritual, fortunes are won and lost, dynasties built and dismantled, all on the whims of the auctioneer’s mallet.

As such, it was a huge day for the ten teams as they battled it out, not on the field but at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai. This wasn’t a clash of bats and balls, but a thrilling auction watched by millions worldwide. Every team played their cards, some better than others, but all emerged with squads ready to face the upcoming season’s challenges. It was a big day, no doubt, filled with excitement and anticipation for the battles to come

Mitchell Starc emerged as the most expensive player as he was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders for a massive amount- 24.75 Cr to be precise. Apart from Starc, the 2-time champions signed the likes of Sherfane Rutherford, Ramandeep Singh, KS Bharat, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Manish Pandey, Mujeeb Zadran, Gus Atkinson, Sakib Hossain, and Chetan Sakariya.

Sunrisers Hyderabad had a busy day, especially in the early phase. They signed Pat Cummins for 20.50 Cr who then was the most expensive player. They also added Travis Head and Wanindu Hasaranga to their roster. Later on, they went restrained in their approach and waited for the opportunities to get some key players. They have the likes of Akash Singh, Jhathavedh Subramanyam, and Jaydev Unadkat in their squad.

Mumbai Indians would be looking to win the championship for the sixth time. Bowling was the main issue for them in the IPL 2023. To sort it out, they ended up buying genuine bowlers like Gerald Coetzee, Dilshan Madushanka, A Kamboj, Nuwan Thushara, and Shreyas Gopal. They also have a couple of genuine batters like Naman Dhir and S Sharma. In the All-rounder front, MI got the experienced Mohammad Nabi.

Royal Challengers Bangalore spent a lot on picking the bowlers, as they thought their batting to be almost settled. RCB got an exciting All-rounder like Swapnil Singh and picked S Chauhan.

The defending champions, Chennai Super Kings, targeted some of the explosive batters from the big stage. They got the Kiwi batters like Daryl Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra, who shined in the ODI World Cup 2023. Along with it, they got some exciting, uncapped batters like Sameer Rizvi and A Avinash. They targeted some bowlers who they felt would be useful in Chennai. Mustafizur Rahman and Shardul Thakur were bought by CSK.

The Lucknow Super Giants had some very good players in their lineup already. Their focus was to buy some world-class bowlers. They got Ashton Turner as a batter and got some very good bowlers like David Willey, Shivam Mavi, M. Siddharth, Arshad Khan, and Arshin Kulkarni, being relatively laid back at the auction table, due to the lack of purse.

Delhi Capitals had a field day at the auction, as they made good use of their purse. They bought some good batters like Harry Brook, Tristan Stubbs, Shai Hope, Kumar Kushagra, S Chikara, and Ricky Bhui on the day. In the bowling department, they bought Rasikh Dar Salam and Jhye Richardson. They also got an All-rounder like S Kumar.

Gujarat Titans needed a backup for Hardik Pandya. They almost got a near-like-to-like replacement in Azmatullah Omarzai. Further, they got the likes of some very good batters like Shahrukh Khan and Robin Minz. They have some very good bowlers like Umesh Yadav, Kartik Tyagi, Manav Suthar, Spencer Johnson, and Sushant Mishra. They will be led by a new captain Shubman Gill.

Punjab Kings managed to add some very good names to their squad. In the batting department, they got the likes of Ashutosh D, V P Singh, Shashank S, and Rilee Rossouw. They got some bowlers like Chris Woakes, Tanay T, Prince C, and Harshal Patel. They spent a lot on Harshal and Rossouw. Apart from that, they got other players relatively easily.

Rajasthan Royals did not have to buy many players. But they did buy some players who were to provide them the balance. Rovman Powell was the biggest name from their purchase, as they needed a middle-order batter. Apart from him, they also got Shubham Dubey and Tom Kohler-Cadmore as wicketkeeping options.
