Rafael Crivellaro, a Brazilian attacking midfielder for Chennaiyin FC, has left the club, ending a three-plus-year association with the Marina Machans. The playmaker appeared in 27 games in the Indian Super League (ISL), scoring eight goals, but injuries limited his playing time.
Rafael got off to a good start with the two-time ISL champions, who named him captain. However, halfway through the season, the Brazilian was ruled out due to an ankle injury. Rafael Crivellaro returned for the 2021-22 season and was expected to be a key member of the team before suffering a Grade 2 muscle injury in pre-season and being ruled out once more.
Following that, the 33-year-old returned to India. After two seasons in a bubble, fans were eager to see ‘Master Rafa’ in action as the ISL returned to its usual home-and-away format. However, much to their surprise, head coach Thomas Brdaric did not consider the attacking midfielder for selection, preferring to sign a new player in Nasser El Khayati.
Rafael Crivellaro has decided to end his contract with Chennaiyin FC due to a lack of opportunities. Jamshedpur FC, the ISL League Shield winners, are interested in signing the player, with Wellington Priori being released by the Red Miners.
The franchise released the following statement: “Jamshedpur FC and Wellington Priori have decided to part ways by mutual consent. Jamshedpur FC would like to sincerely thank Wellington Priori for his contribution to the club and wish him the best for his future endeavours!”
