The captain of the Indian women’s team, Harmanpreet Kaur, has been in the news for her negative comments on the on-field umpire during the post-match conference of the Bangladesh match. The 34-year-old also hit the stumps with her bat when the umpire gave a judgment that did not please her. The Punjab cricketer has been in the news since then.

The international cricket board handed a suspension of two games to the Indian captain for breaching the code of conduct in the third ODI against Bangladesh. Harmanpreet was found guilty in two incidents. Kaur had smashed the wickets with her bat as she was not happy with the call of the on-field umpires. Kaur was handed a fine of 50 per cent of her match fees for the level 2 offence.

Further during the post-match conference, Kaur expressed her disappointment over the decision of the umpires. Kaur was found guilty of breaching Article 2.8 of the code of conduct for player and support personnel. As a result, the Indian captain was handed a fine of 25 per cent of match fees for the level 1 offence including a demerit point. After the action from the international board, the Indian cricket board reacted to the incident.

‘No appeal for revocation or relaxation of ban on Kaur’ – Shah

Jay Shah spoke about the incident with the Indian captain during the media conference. Shah said that the Indian board would not appeal for the revocation or relaxation of the ban on Kaur, as the time for appeal is over. Jay Shah also said that the President of the Indian cricket board, Roger Binny, and the head of the National Cricket Academy, VVS Laxman, will have counselling with the Indian captain as per the board directive.

Harmanpreet Kaur, who is considered one of the greatest players to perform in big matches, will miss out on two games for India in the Asian Games 2023. The Indian captain will miss the quarterfinal and the semifinal matches of India in the big tournament, which would be a big dent for India, considering the reputation of Kaur in big matches.
