The selection committee led by Chetan Sharma was sacked post India’s dismal outing in the 20-20 World Cup 2022 and the Indian cricket board was quick enough to invite applications for the same. On December 22, Thursday reports emerged claiming that the board received over 600 applications expressing their interest to be a part of the selection committee.

While that is something that one could be appreciative of, there was a twist in the tale as the reports claimed that there were fake applications in the name of MS Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag. NDTV quoted a source as saying that the impersonators were rather wasting the Indian cricket board’s time by doing such antics.

“Around 600 applications have been received and some of them have come from fake ids claiming to be Dhoni, Sehwag and Tendulkar. They are simply wasting Indian cricket board’s time by doing that. The Advisory Committee will shortlist 10 candidates and then choose the final five. The process will be completed soon,” NDTV quoted the source as saying.

What would be the initial tasks of the new selection committee for team India?

On Wednesday, the Indian cricket board had to postpone the release of central contracts as they awaited the formation of a new selection committee and get their inputs on the same. The initial tasks of the new committee would include approving the central contracts and selecting the squad for the home series against Sri Lanka set to get underway on January 3.

For the unversed, the advisory panel consists of Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjpe and Sulakshna Naik and the three would have to finalise the committee to ensure that the tasks are completed at the earliest. To add more, the panel consisting of the trio is expected to meet soon to get things sorted.

India have a hectic home schedule going against the likes of Sri Lanka, New Zealand and the much-anticipated Border-Gavaskar trophy against mighty Australia. The new committee would hope to find the right balance and come up with a squad that would do India a whole lot of favour.
