India vs South Africa: First T20I – Preview, Playing XI, Pitch Report & Updates
After the completion of this year’s Indian T20 League, Indian players will be seen in action again as they are going to host South Africa for a home series. This will be five-match T20I series from 9 June to 19 June 2022.
Ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup later this year in Australia, this series will be crucial for both teams. Both teams will look to use some new combinations with some new players.
In the shortest format of the game, Team India is enjoying a 12-match winning streak after their last loss came in the last year’s World Cup. Hence, they are now on the verge of making a World record if they can manage another win over the Proteas in the first match of the series. On the other hand, this will be South Africa’s first T20I assignment after the last year’s World Cup.
As of now, both teams have played 15 T20I matches between them. Among them, India won nine times while South Africa won six times with two games ending in ‘no result’. However, in India, these teams faced four-time so far. South Africa has an edge over India by winning three of those. India managed only one win.

Team India rested big names like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah for this series. New and young players like Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh have been called up to the squad based on their recent performances in the Indian T20 League.
Veteran players like Dinesh Karthik and Hardik Pandya also got included in the squad for their outstanding outing with their franchises in the Indian T20 League 2022. Bowlers like Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and Harshal Patel have been retained while Axar Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Kuldeep Yadav were added for spin bowling options.

Aiden Markram also had a good season for his Hyderbad franchise, batting at no. 4. Both Keshav Maharaj and Anrich Nortje were added to the squad to support the bowling line-up.

Pitch Report
The Delhi pitch is generally on a slower side and the boundary sizes of this ground are not so big. Hence, teams can look to bat first to put a good total on the board early.
