India has been awarded the hosting rights for the 2025 ODI World Cup. This will be the first time since 2013 that the Asian country will host the event. In that event, the Women In Blue won only one game out of three and were knocked out in the first round. On the other hand, they are two other tournaments which will be played in the Indian subcontinent.

The 20-20 World Cup in 2025 will be played Bangladesh while the 2027 Champions Trophy will be played in Sri Lanka. However, the Lankan Lions are yet to qualify for the tournament. The venues of these tournaments were shortlisted by the World Cricket Governing Council on July 26, which was the final day of the annual meeting.

These venues were shortlisted and recommended by the body’s working group. It consists of former New Zealand fast bowler Martin Snedden, Indian Cricket Board chairperson Sourav Ganguly, Cricket West Indies president Ricky Skerritt, and the acting ECB CEO Clare Connor. It is also believed that the broadcasters were looking to get the events played in a time zone convenient for the Indian market.

With the Women’s game becoming more and more popular in the South Asian continent, the Cricket Governing Council have decided to sell the rights separately from Men’s game for the first time. Talking about the first global event in the new cycle, which is the 2024 20-20 World Cup, it will be played in September-October.

10 teams will participate in the tournament and 23 matches to be played. The ODI World Cup next year will be played in the same format as it was played in 2022. Once again, eight teams will play each other in the single round robin league. Overall, this will be India’s first global event the in women’s game since the 2016 20-20 World Cup. At that time, both Men’s and Women’s version of the tournament was played parallel to each other.

Notably, the 2027 Champions Trophy will the inaugural edition of the tournament in the Women’s game. It will be played in a T20 format.
