Indian cricketer Virat Kohli recently made headlines for being the highest-earning Indian on the social media platform Instagram. According to Instagram Rich List 2023 released by Hopper HQ, an Instagram scheduling tool, the former India captain charges a staggering Rs 11.45 crore per sponsored post on Instagram. However, Kohli has now responded to the reports by confirming that the claims about his massive social media earnings are untrue.

The batting maestro, who currently has 256 million followers on the platform, is reportedly the world’s richest cricketer with a net worth of over Rs 1,000 crore according to Stock Gro. Now the report from Hopper HQ revealed that he is the third-richest athlete on Instagram, the highest-paid cricketer and the only Indian in the top 25 list.

Kohli took to his Twitter on Saturday (August 12) and said that he is very grateful for everything he has got in his life but reports about his Instagram earnings are fake. “While I am grateful and indebted to all that I’ve received in life, the news that has been making rounds about my social media earnings is not true,” the 34-year-old tweeted.

Kohli was ranked 23rd in the Instagram Rich List 2021

This is not the first time Kohli has appeared on the Instagram rich list. He was ranked 23rd in 2021, but two years later he moved up to 14th thanks to massive follower growth on the Meta-owned platform. Meanwhile, Portugal footballer Cristiano Ronaldo topped the list, earning $3.23 million (approximately Rs 26.7 crore) per Instagram post. The Al-Nassr forward, who has close to 600 million followers on Instagram, won the title for the third year in a row.

Ronaldo was followed by his G.O.A.T (Greatest of All Time) debate partner Lionel Messi, who earns around $2.6 million per Instagram post. Brazil super-striker Neymar is the only other footballer to make the top 20, as he earns almost twice as much per post as his Paris Saint-Germain teammate Kylian Mbappe. The Hopper HQ list is compiled based on internal and publicly available data on how much each user can charge per post on Instagram.
