‘I’m not a big fan, personally’- Aaron Finch opens up on the mankading debate
The third and final T20I match between England and Australia resulted in a washout, meaning England take the series 2-0. England played 12 overs in the final T20I and Jos Buttler led the way with the bat, smashing 65 runs in 41 deliveries. However, one incident between Mitchell Starc and Buttler that happened in the fifth over grabbed all the headlines after the match.
Mitchell Starc bowled one fuller delivery to Dawid Malan which jabbed back to him. Upon returning, Starc gave a warning to Buttler for backing up too early.
“I’m not Deepti, but I won’t do it. That doesn’t mean you can leave early,” Starc said to Buttler.
For the unversed, Starc was referring to the incident where Deepti Sharma ran out England cricketer Charlotte Dean during an ODI match at Lord’s last month.
To that, Jos Buttler replied by saying, “I don’t think I did.”
The mankading episode, once again, came to light and Australia skipper Aaron Finch was also asked to share his views on the same. The skipper stated that he isn’t a huge fan of the mode of dismissal and would like it if the bowlers give a warning first before running out the batters at the non-striker’s end.
“I think if guys get a warning, then it’s fair game after that,” Finch was quoted as saying by Press Association.
“That would go for most teams, I assume, if you give a batter a warning, because you think that they’re gaining a little bit too much ground before the ball is bowled. But I’m not a big fan, personally.”
England skipper Jos Buttler had, earlier, said that he would call the batsman back.
“No, I am calling the batsman back,” he said. “No one wants to see them in the game because they always create such a talking point when it should be about the battle between bat and ball and watching great games of cricket. They always seem to happen at unsavoury times.” said the England’s T20I skipper.
