‘I think Jaiswal needs to be a part of the squad’ – Former India player’s take ahead of India vs West Indies Squad selection

India will be touring West Indies for two Test matches, three One Day Internationals, and five T20 International scheduled to begin on July 12

After a heart-wrenching defeat in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final against Australia at The Oval, India have a lot of thinking to do with their team selection and also the way in which they want to ahead with their cricket across all formats. Sooner or later, there should be a call that needs to be made considering Team India’s future player who can successfully take the baton from the current established players.

One such rising star is Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has certainly caught the eyes of many cricket pundits and fans across the globe with elegant and consistent batting. Jaiswal has been in prime form in recent times and also carried his red-hot form into the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Based on this phenomenal run in IPL 2023, the 21-year-old made it to the reserves of the WTC Final squad and after this selection, the fans have been urging for his selection in the Indian squad to the West Indies.

Now, the former India player, Wasim Jaffar also joined this thought process and has urged the selectors to include the eye-pleasing opening batter in the squad. Speaking to Sportskeeda, the former India opener said that Jaiswal is certainly one for the future and also that the elegant left-hand batter should be a part of the Indian squad which is scheduled to visit the Caribbean Island in the starting week of July.

“Yashasvi Jaiswal is definitely one of them. He has been a very prolific scorer across formats, whether you talk about the IPL, domestic cricket, or India A cricket. I think he needs to be a part of the squad,” said Jaffer, while speaking to Sportskeeda.

Jaffer said tough the left-hand batter was given the chance into the WTC squad but did not feature in the playing 11 as Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma were the designated opener there. Further adding to this, the veteran India opener also pointed out that Jaiswal should be kept along with the team so that he can be groomed, and when there is a hint of opportunity the Uttar Pradesh-born should be drafted in the squad.
