‘I see myself in Rishabh Pant’ – Ryan Burl sheds light on similarities between him and Pant
There is no doubt that Team India will go in as favorites when they take on Zimbabwe in the 3-match ODI series starting on August 18th. All the three 50-over matches are going to be played at the Harare Sports Club in Zimbabwe.
The Zimbabweans are definite underdogs at this stage but Ryan Burl believes for all the right reasons that the No. 10 ranked team in the ODI Format can stage an upset against India.
Craig Ervine, the regular skipper of Zimbabwe will play no part in the series due to a hamstring injury. Due to his unavailability. Regis Chakabva who led the side to a 2-1 series win over Bangladesh, will take on the reigns of captaincy again.
With the Zimbabwe vs India series set to kick off on Thursday, TimesofIndia.com caught up with a 28-year-old Zimbabwe all-rounder Ryan Burl, who is part of the squad that is taking on the Indian side, to talk about the series and more.
Burl, a left arm middle order batter and leg-break bowler, has played 3 tests, 28 ODI’s, and 47 T20I’s for Chevron’s. Burl believes that Zimbabwe can stop India from registering a clean sweep and also has the potential to win the series.
“Yes, definitely. I don’t see any reason why we can’t win. We do have a home advantage. We have been playing quite well at home recently. . People obviously talk about the likes of Streaky (Heath Streak) and the Flowers (Andy Flower and Grant Flower) and all those guys back then. Now we have got our own legends.” he said
“We have got Raza (Sikandar Raza), we’ve got Ervine (Craig Ervine), and we have got all these other legends. There is probably something wrong with me If I didn’t think we could win because every time you step onto the field or court or whatever the competition is, you are looking to win. So, we are looking at the series positively, and hopefully, we can do something special.” he added.
The Zimbabwe cricketer heaped praise on Indian wicket-keeper batter, Rishabh Pant and said that he sees a lot of similarities between him and Pant.
“To be honest, I am going to mention Rishabh Pant. I Kind of see myself in him. Probably short stocky left-handers that like to hit the ball. I would like to pick his brain for a bit, hopefully, and obviously outdo him in the boundary count. We will see how it goes.”
India and Zimbabwe will lock horns with each other in the first ODI on Thursday.
