Shushila Devi Likmabam who won a Silver Medal for India at the Commonwealth Games 2022. The women’s judo 48kg gold medal winner has given a valuable piece of information to all those who play judo in India and also the actual practitioners of Judo in India.

She said that she is very happy and gratified that she has won a medal for India in the Commonwealth Games 2022. She said that it is a good day for all judo practitioners and that the sport of judo should be publicized more and played more.

Likmabam revealed that she was disheartened because she did not win the gold for India. She had won the silver medal in the  2014  edition of the commonwealth games that took place in Glasgow and now she has backed it up with another silver medal in the present edition of Commonwealth Games.

She said that she is proud and happy because it will encourage more people to play the sport of judo and that upcoming athletes in the country can take inspiration from her to make the country proud in their respective fields of Sport going forward.

Here are some lesser-known facts about Shushila Devi Likmabam 

  1. Sushila started training at the Judo academy at the tender age of 7. She used to train with her brother Silakshi Singh. They used to go for practice early in the morning. it would take a time slot of upwards of thirty minutes to reach the academy and they used to cover the journey to the academy with the help of a bicycle.
  2. Sushila was tutored in Judo practice by her uncle Likmabam Dinit, who was an international judo player. She took baby steps by participating in several national and state-level championships. She made her international debut at the Commonwealth Judo championship in 2010 which was held in Singapore. She took part under the 44 kg classification and clinched the gold medal.
