Ricky Ponting and Rishabh Pant have closely worked with each other in the Indian T20 League, Pant has been under Ricky Ponting’s wings when he was the mentor for the Delhi side in the Indian T20 League. They have worked well together as coach and captain for Delhi.

Rishabh has been in a lukewarm sort of form in T20I’s he has not been able to ace the game of Cricket when it comes to T20 internationals. He has always got out because he was feeling the pressure of the situation, having said that, Rishabh Pant is poles apart in test and T20 cricket.

Rishabh though has had good recent limited overs form where he was at his best and helped India win the recent ODI series in England.

Dinesh Karthik though has been hot on Rishabh’s heels as he pipped him for a spot in the playing eleven in the match against Pakistan. Karthik has been on a roll ever since the 2022 edition of the Indian T20 League where he scored bucketloads of runs for the Bangalore side, which paved the way for him to get back into the Indian team.

Dinesh Karthik was the first-choice wicket-keeper ahead of Rishabh Pant in the Asia Cup encounter against Pakistan which left many surprised. Ricky Ponting shared his thoughts on this, he said,

“I was really surprised that Pant wasn’t part of the playing X1 – I don’t think it will be too long before we see him again – having said, it also shows the quality & depth of the Indian team as they left out someone like Pant”.

The race to the wicket keepers’ spot is heating up due to competition and uncertainty, India has kept their options open as to who they would like to have as the preferred wicketkeeper. As of now, experimentation is still happening with regard to this.

It remains to be seen as to who will India go with for the wicketkeeper slot, will it be the experienced Dinesh Karthik or the maverick Rishabh Pant?
