Mohammad Amir, the left-arm pacer, was one of the fiery pacers for Pakistan and the bowler announced his retirement in 2020, much to the surprise of all Pakistani fans. Pakistan, on the other hand, are struggling to get things sorted given that they lost the 20-20 World Cup 2022, Test series vs England, and ODIs vs New Zealand back-to-back with the Test series prior to the ODIs vs the Kiwis ending a draw with neither of the teams winning the two Tests.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) headed by Najam Sethi announced Haroon Rasheed as the chief selector of the new selection committee and it remains to be seen if Babar Azam would continue as the skipper of the team across all formats as there are reports claiming that the board might opt for split captaincy in future.

That being said, there have been reports claiming that the left-armer is aiming for a comeback and is willing to come out of retirement. Much to the surprise of the fans, Rasheed opened up on the same and that he heard of it as well. The chief selector said that the left-armer would be considered for selection if he keeps playing just like other cricketers.

I am not sure about his status: Haroon Rasheed

Further, Rasheed claimed that he is not aware of the status of the left-armer and his availability, as he moved to clarify about Shoaib Malik next. The former Pakistani cricketer said that the right-handed batter would be considered but if a youngster plays the same role as the veteran, it would become debatable.

“In Amir’s case, I am not sure about his status. I have heard he is thinking of taking his retirement back. It is good that he is playing. If he continues to perform, he will be in contention for selection like other players,” Rasheed was quoted as saying.

“You have to see which players can fit in your current combination. In fact, we also have to see if such player [Malik] can play any specific role in an important event, which can increase the possibility of Pakistan winning. However, if a young player performs the same role, it can be debatable,” he added.
