‘I always try to keep a stable head’ – Jasprit Bumrah after match-winning spell vs England
Jasprit Bumrah has been the lynchpin of the Indian bowling attack soon after he burst into the international circuit. The fast bowler has come a long way since he made his international debut in 2016, and is now one of the best bowlers in the world.
Yesterday was no different for the Indian pace spearhead as he ran through the English batting line-up. The England batters could not find any answer to the bag of tricks that Bumrah had. The pacer made sure England’s batters were quickly marching to the dugout.
He got a match-defining six wickets. He got them in just 7.2 overs. Praises came showering down for the fast bowler due to his mesmerizing performance, but, Bumrah mentioned that he never gets too carried away by praises or by failure.
“See, it was a good day and then you get applauded. But I am the type of person who does not get carried away by applause and criticism. Today was a good day, but I do not think about where I am at in each format, I always focus on trying to do what I can do. Very grateful for the applause you get, but I always try to keep a stable head,” said Jasprit Bumrah during a press conference.
“I always like to stay in the present, these days there is outside noise, too many opinions. There can be confusion that can get created, so I try to focus on my own evaluation and my preparation. If I tick all the boxes, what I can do, I do that and I accept the result that comes after. I try to remain consistent and that gives me stability,” he added.
While Bumrah scalped six wickets, he was joined by the other pacers on his side, i.e. Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Shami. They picked one and three wickets respectively as England’s batting lineup came down like a house of cards, for mere 110 runs. In response, skipper Rohit Sharma and his opening partner Shikhar Dhawan chased the runs down in just 18.4 overs to win the game by 10 wickets. India is now leading the three-match series by 1-0 and would look to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
