Virat Kohli had been in great form in the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League. In 14 matches, Kohli amassed 639 runs at an average of 53.25 and a strike rate of 139.82. He also made 6 fifties and two hundreds. Now, Kohli will be looking to continue the same form ahead of the all-important World Test Championship final. The marquee clash will be played at the Oval in England between 7 to 11 June.

Kohli has a good record against Australia as he has scored 1979 runs against the Kangaroos so far at an average of 48.26 and at a strike rate of 52.25. He has scored five fifties and eight hundreds. Some of Kohli’s best performances came against Australia both at home and abroad. “I’ve to raise and elevate my game against Australia. They’re very competitive, their skill set is very high. My motivation increases even more now, I’ve to give my best against them,” Kohli said on Star Sports.

You cannot expect a certain type of conditions at the Oval – Virat Kohli

“The rivalry between India and Australia, in the early days, used to be a lot intense. There used to be a tense environment. But after we won 2 series in Australia, the rivalry has turned into respect. We can’t be taken lightly as a Test team. We can see the respect the oppositions have for us. They expect us to give a close fight even in their conditions. We can’t be taken lightly anymore,” Kohli said talking about the India- Australia rivalry.

“You can’t expect a certain type of condition when you go out and bat at the Oval. There is a need to adapt and adjust quickly. It’s only a one-off match for both teams. The team that adapts better will prevail,” “This is the beauty of WTC, there are two teams at a neutral venue. And the beauty of it is to see how the two teams adapt,” Kohli added.

Notably, India and Australia clashed against each other at the Border-Gavaskar Trophy recently. India won the series 2-1 in home conditions. But the match in England promises to be a different ball game altogether. The dukes ball will be used for the marquee clash. The ball will have a much more pronounced seam in comparison to the SG and Kookaburra ball.
