Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals battled each other at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium. The coin fell in CSK’s favour and they elected to bat first. On a pitch which was not the easiest to bat on, the CSK batters relied on timely cameos to push through. There were short and sharp contributions. Ravindra Jadeja batted at number seven and scored 21 off 16 balls with one four and one and six.

After Jadeja was dismissed, MS Dhoni came out and batted at number eight. The CSK skipper made a quickfire 20 off 9 balls with one four and two sixes. With regards to batting positions, this is what Jadeja said at the post-match presentation. “When I bat at 7, the crowd is disappointed and chants for Mahi bhai, imagine if I bat higher, they will just wait for me to get out”. Jadeja said these words with a big smile.

Matheesha Pathirana picked up 3-37 in his four overs with the ball for Chennai Super Kings

Jadeja said the above only in jest. There were mixed reactions from the fans after he said this statement. But the overall opinion was that the CSK fans wanted to soak in as much of MS Dhoni as possible. This is because MS Dhoni is in the last phase of his career. The fans though said that they love Jadeja with all their heart and will also miss him when he bids adieu to the game.

CSK relied on quick scores to get to 167-8 in their 20 overs. Shivam Dube took on the spinners and hit 25 off just 12 balls with three sixes. Ambati Rayudu made 23 off 17 balls with one four and one six. Mitchell Marsh and Axar Patel were the two best bowlers for DC. Marsh picked up 3-18 in three overs. Axar took 2-27 in his four-over spell. The DC batters were not able to combat the CSK bowlers.

Matheesha Pathirana picked up 3-37 in his four overs, and Jadeja took 1 wicket but conceded just 19 runs in his four-over quota. Deepak Chahar was very good upfront with the new ball and picked up the big wickets of David Warner and Phil Salt in his three overs spell.
