‘Hum dukhi the, par hmse jyada…’-Twitter turns to memes after India’s loss to South Africa takes Pakistan at the edge of World Cup ouster
India and South Africa faced each other in their third match of the 20-20 World Cup on Sunday. The game was billed to be a highly competitive game of cricket and it did not disappoint.
The match began with Rohit Sharma winning the toss and electing to bat first as opposed the trend. What followed however was a batting collapse akin to some of the worst times for team India. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was the first to depart at just 9 runs in 14 deliveries. KL Rahul, the Indian opener who has been under intense scrutiny due to poor form also failed to impress and got out at 15.
In-form batter Virat Kohli was the next to go at 12 and World Cup debutant Deepak Hooda also failed spectacularly. It was only Suryakumar Yadav who had the answer to South Africa’s pace attack as the batter brought out his half-century (68) under intense pressure.
On the back of Suryakumar’s knock, India got to 133/9 in 20 overs and gave the bowlers something to fight for. Lungi Ngidi was the most impressive bowler from the South Africa side as he took 4 wickets in 4 overs. Wayne Parnell meanwhile also impressed with his three-wicket haul in 4 overs.
In reply, South Africa got off to a poor start as well as Arshdeep Singh breathed fire at the Perth pitch. South Africa found themselves struggling at 24/3 but Aiden Markram and David Miller created a strong partnership that saw South Africa to a 5-wicket win against Group 2 toppers India.
