Pakistan couldn't qualify for the semifinal of the ODI World Cup 2023.

A lot of questions have been raised about Babar Azam’s future in cricket, given how Pakistan’s performance was in the ODI World Cup 2023. The Asian side finished fifth in the tournament and couldn’t qualify for the knockout stage of the tournament. The captaincy of Babar Azam came under scrutiny. The former cricketers and fans asked the Pakistan captain to step down, taking responsibility for the team’s loss.

During the press conference before the match between England and Pakistan, which was the last match of Pakistan in the tournament, Babar said that he would decide on his captaincy after the completion of their campaign. Now that Pakistan’s tournament has come to an end, there have been talks about Babar’s future as a batter and as a captain of the team. People have mixed opinions on it.

In a panel consisting of current and former Pakistan players like Imad Wasim, Mohammad Amir, and Abdul Razzaq, the future of Babar was discussed. The experts were asked to give their opinions on Babar’s future in Pakistan. Amir and Wasim were of the opinion that Babar should not be a part of Pakistan’s T20 team. Experts bat against Babar Azam for the shortest format

Speaking about Babar’s future in Pakistan, the experts felt that the star batter should not be in the T20 side, as he bats slow by default. Amir was the first one to raise the point. Wasim agreed to his argument of Amir and concluded that Babar should concentrate on longer formats. The move comes following the reports suggesting Shaheen Afridi to take up the responsibility of Pakistan’s limited overs cricket.

Pakistan is not having a great time as a team. The entire selection committee was sacked by the board after Inzamam-ul-Haq resigned from the post of chief selector of the team. Morne Morkel resigned from his post as Pakistan’s bowling coach. Pakistan lost to five teams in the tournament. Four of them came in the middle of the tournament, which reduced Pakistan’s chances.
