‘His tenure has been a mixed bag’ – Fans react to possibility of new head coach after ODI World Cup if Rahul Dravid is not reappointed

Rahul Dravid was appointed as India’s coach after the debacle that took place in the 2021 T20 World Cup. He replaced Ravi Shastri and the helm. Now there are reports that India would play their next Test against South Africa which will take place in December under a new head coach if Dravid is not reappointed. Under Dravid, the tenure has had its ups and down’s When it came to the 2022 World Cup India crashed out of the semi-finals against England.

At their second World Test Championship  (WTC) final The Men in Blue suffered a very heavy defeat at the hands of the Kangaroos as they lost by 209 runs at the Oval in England. The Men in Blue also lost an ODI series to Australia before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Against South Africa India lost the Test series 2-1. On that tour, Virat Kohli stepped down as captain of the Test side.

India however managed to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy when they beat Australia 2-1 at home in a tightly contested series. The Men in Blue registered ODI and T20I series wins against Sri Lanka and New Zealand at home. Dravid had already served as head coach of the U-19 side and also for India A before becoming the coach of the National side. People expected Dravid to yield immediate results as he did with the youngsters. But it was not to be as results from Dravid’s tenure have indicated that the results have been up and down.

Dravid will not be a part of the three-match T20I series against Ireland. India will play in the Asia Cup after the West Indies series. Dravid talked about the multilateral tournament and said he would be happy if India play the final. “The schedule is out and you have to qualify for the Super4s to play Pakistan three times, so one step at a time. I don’t believe in counting my chickens too much. I want to play one game at a time,” Dravid said.

“We know we have to play Pakistan and Nepal in the first two games, we need to focus on that, we need to play good cricket, we need to win those games and then see where the tournament goes. If we get the opportunity to play them three times, I think that is fantastic, that means we reach the final of the tournament and hopefully Pakistan reach the final as well.” Dravid added.
