Legends League Cricket has been a great tournament to watch. The clock turned back as cricket fans at Doha witnessed high quality cricket played by greats of cricket. The tournament has gone back to its original format as in the first edition as it comprises three teams namely India Maharajas, World Giants and Asia Lions. In the game between Lions and Giants, a very schoolboy umpiring error had taken place.
Former West Indian cricketer, Tino Best was bowling to the Asia Lions batter. He had bowled a legitimate delivery but, the umpire called it a no ball. After she made the decision, various fans spotted the error and she was heavily trolled on social media. The game between Lions and Giants was a thriller. The Giants scored 150-3 in their 20 overs. They got to the score thanks to Hashim Amla’s 68 off 59 balls with nine fours and one six.
Jacques Kallis made an unbeaten 56 off 23 balls for the World Giants
Jacques Kallis also complimented his South African teammate well as he made a well-crafted unbeaten 56 off 43 balls with five fours and two sixes. Mohammad Amir and Sohail Tanvir returned with figures of 1-31 and 1-32 respectively in their four over spells. In the run chase, Tillakaratne Dilshan amassed 37 off 28 balls with five fours and one six. The Lions skipper, Shahid Afridi also played a handy knock of 26 off 18 balls, with three fours and one six.
The Lions batters failed to get their eye in and convert their starts. The Giants bowlers kept picking wickets at regular intervals. Chris Mpofu was the pick of the bowlers for Giants. The Zimbabwean picked up 3-16 in his four over spell. He was ably supported by Best, who scalped 3-20 in his four overs. Brett Lee returned with a tidy spell of 1-23 in his three overs.
This large-hearted bowling effort by the Giants helped usurp the Lions by 20 runs and win the match. The crowds at Qatar have received the tournament very well. This has been a good sign for the growth of cricket there.
