Shimron Hetmyer was the main anchor as Rajasthan Royals defeated the defending champions Gujarat Titans by 3 wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium in match number 23 of IPL 2023. Batting first, GT posted a total of 177 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. In reply, RR chased the winning total in 19.2 overs losing 7 wickets.

GT lost the first two wickets at the score of 32 in five overs. After that, Shubman Gill and the skipper Hardik Pandya added 59 runs for the third wicket. Pandya got out after scoring 28 off 19 with three fours and a maximum. A few overs later, Gill also got out after a well-made 45 off 34 with four fours and one six. After that, David Miller and Abhinav Manohar took the innings further by adding 45 runs for the fifth wicket.

Manohar got out after playing a quick knock of 27 off 13 with three maximums, while Miller got out in the second last ball of the innings after scoring 46 off 30 with three fours and two sixes. For RR, Sandeep Sharma scalped 2 wickets by conceding 25 runs in his four overs, while Trent Boult, Adam Zampa and Yuzvendra Chahal took a wicket each.

RR’s star opening pair got out cheaply

Chasing the winning total, RR had a disastrous start as they lost both their openers at the score of 4 in 2.5 overs. Yashasvi Jaiswal ended up giving a catch to Gill at slips in the third of the second over by Pandya. An over later, Jos Buttler went for a duck as Mohammed Shami cleared his stumps. After that, the skipper Sanju Samson and Devdutt Padikkal took the innings further by adding 43 runs for the third wicket

Padikkal got out in the ninth over after scoring 26 off 25. A Couple of overs later, Riyan Parag also lost his wicket trying to take on Rashid Khan but ended up giving a catch to David Miller at long off. After that, Samosn and Hetmyer took charge of the innings and put up a partnership of 59 runs for the fifth wicket. Samson got out after scoring 60 runs off 32 balls, smashing three fours and six sixes, while Hetmyer continued to take the innings further by adding 47 runs with Dhruv Jurel for the sixth wicket.

Jurel got out after scoring 18 off 10. After that, Ravichandran Ashwin played a superhit cameo and got out after smashing 10 runs from three balls. After that, Hetmyer hit the winning six in the last over as RR broke their losing streak against the defending champions. The Caribbean batter remained unbeaten on 56 off 26 balls, hitting two fours and five sixes. For GT, Shami scalped 3 wickets in his four over conceding 25 runs. Rashid took 2, while Hardik Pandya and Noor Ahmad shared a wicket each.
