‘He’ll never score runs in knockouts’ – Fans react as Virender Sehwag predicts Virat Kohli to score ‘lot of runs’ in ODI World Cup 2023
Before revealing the schedule for the ODI World Cup 2023, the Cricket Governing Body conducted a show with two former World Cup winners, Virender Sehwag of India and Muttiah Muralitharan of Sri Lanka. The 2011 ODI World Cup winner and the former teammate of Virat Kohli were asked to give his opinion on the latter’s role in India’s campaign for the upcoming ODI World Cup in 2023. The former opener replied, “I’m sure Virat will score a lot of runs and he will do his best to win the world cup for India”.
The big prediction from the former Indian opener came as India is looking to win their first ICC title in a long time. Kohli is going through a purple patch in ODIs in the last few months. From 10 Dec 2022, Kohli has scored 540 runs in 9 innings at a great average of 60.00, at an incredible strike rate of 117.65, including three hundred and a fifty. In the period, Kohli has the second most runs for a batter from a full-member team.
Kohli is considered one of the finest batters in Cricket now and of all time. The consistent run scorer has a reputation for performing well in big tournaments. In ODI World Cup, Kohli amassed 1030 runs in 26 innings at an average of 46.81, at a strike-rate of 86.70, including 2 hundred and 6 fifties. The star batter from Delhi is India’s second-highest run scorer in ODI World Cup.
The former Indian captain would be playing the ODI series against West Indies in July. India is set to play the Asia Cup after the conclusion of the West Indies tour. The fans of the 34-year-old would be hoping for Kohli to gain some confidence by scoring runs in the above-mentioned tournaments before the big world cup in October.
