The much-awaited 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is around the corner, with teams gearing up after the recent mini-auction held in Dubai on December 19. As teams strategize post the mini-auction the fans are excited to see the return of MS Dhoni. 

MS Dhoni retired from international cricket in 2020 and since then IPL is the only place where fans get to see MS Dhoni play. Dhoni has carved a legacy for himself in the IPL, leading the side since 2008 he has won 5 trophies for the franchise with the 2023 IPL being the most recent one.

Given Dhoni’s age, CSK contemplated the succession plan in the past and tried Ravindra Jadeja as the next captain but the change wasn’t a success and Dhoni was again reinstated as the captain. ‘

CSK CEO sheds light on Dhoni’s return

Amidst speculations about his future, CSK fans are eager to know if MS Dhoni will continue leading the team in IPL 2024, and on this CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan’s recent statement adds a layer of mystery to Dhoni’s cricketing journey. In a recent interview, CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanath said, “That I do not know. See, as far as the captain is concerned, he will answer you directly. He does not tell us what he is going to do.” 

He also provided a recent update on the fitness status of MS Dhoni post the knee surgery he underwent this year in June. He said, “He is doing well now. He has started his rehab. He started working in the gym. And, probably in another 10 days, he’ll start working in the nets also.”

Dhoni’s leadership has been instrumental in CSK’s success. As the defending champions, CSK aims to retain their title in IPL 2024 and in that quest, CSK conducted impressive inclusions during the Players Auction in Dubai on December 19. 

Under the leadership of MS Dhoni, the team successfully acquired six players, with the New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell emerging as their highest-priced purchase at Rs 14 crore. The five-time champions surprised observers by securing the uncapped Indian batter Sameer Rizvi for Rs 8.4 crore. Additionally, CSK retained the services of Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur, who was released from KKR.
