The second qualifier in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) took place between B-Love Kandy (BLK and Galle Titans (GLT). The coin went the way of BLK and they chose to bat. They did not get off to the best of starts as Mohammad Haris and Thanuka Dabare were back in the hut with only 19 runs on board. Sahan Arrchchige was the third wicket to fall. Dinesh Chandimal came in at number three and hit 38 off 37 balls with three fours and one six.

Then skipper Wanindu Hasaranga came in at 5 and cracked a wonderful 48 off 30 balls with three fours and four sixes which gave BLK some much-needed momentum. Angelo Mathews hit 24 off 17 balls with two fours and one six. Down the order, Asif Ali made 10 off 11 balls with one six and Chaturanga de Silva stroked an unbeaten 15 off 6 balls with one four and one six.

Wanindu Hasaranga, Mohammad Hasnain and Chaturanga de Silva picked up 2 wickets each for B-Love Kandy

Some good death bowling from GLT meant that BLK were not able to accelerate in the last few overs. Lahiru Kumara was the best bowler for GLT as he picked 2-21 in his four overs. Shakib Al Hasan took 1-24 in his four overs. Sonal Dinusha was amongst the wickets as well as he scalped 2-32 in his three-over spell. BLK ended up with 157-7 in their 20 overs. In the run chase, GLT got off to a steady start as Litton Das hit 25 off 19 balls with four fours.

Lasith Croospulle was the first batter to get out with the score at 38. He made 14 off 13 balls with one four. GLT was not able to get any momentum going as their batters could not stay at the wicket for long. Those who got started could not convert them. The BLK bowlers kept asking the GLT batters questions as they took wickets at regular intervals. Hasranga and Mohammad Hasanain took two wickets in their respective spells. De Silva also had a good outing with the ball as he scalped 2-16 in his four overs.

In the end, BLK had a comfortable win of 34 runs to make it to the final of the LPL 2023 where they will face Dambulla Aura on August 20.  GLT made 123-8 in their 20 overs. It promises to be a great contest as there will be quality cricketers on the show who will provide high-octane action.
