Harmanpreet Kaur on knife edge after outburst against Bangladesh, could face potential 2 match suspension
Harmanpreet Kaur is set to cope with the brunt after her vile outburst that took place at Dhaka in the third ODI against Bangladesh. The result of what happened has cascaded to India’s Asian Games campaign where Kaur could be suspended for two matches and is likely to sit out. This would happen if the Cricket Governing Body deems so. Harmanpreet Kaur was fuming and very angry over an LBW decision which was adjudged by umpire Tanvir Ahmed.
Kaur took down the stumps with her bat and was seen arguing with the umpire about her decision. A report on Cricbuzz states that Kaur could be docked with four demerit points. The break up was three for disturbing match equipment and one for directly criticising the match official. According to the rules of the Cricket Governing Body, if a player accumulates four or more demerit points in a period of 24 months, it would directly lead to suspension from one Test or two ODIs or two T20Is, whichever appears next on the schedule.
Some pathetic umpiring was done -Harmanpreet Kaur
The upcoming matches for India Women will be the Asian Games that take place in Hangzhou, China between September 2023 to October 8. When we look at India’s rankings, it has earned them a direct shot at the quarterfinals of the Asian Games. If the suspension were to happen then Kaur would only be a part of the final and that is if India were to go through all the way to the summit clash. India tied the 3-match ODI series against Bangladesh 1-1.
“Some pathetic umpiring was done and we are really disappointed about some decisions given by the umpires,” Kaur said at the post-match presentation after the Third ODI against Bangladesh. A lot of learning from this game. Even apart from the cricket, the type of umpiring that was happening there, we were very surprised. The next time whenever we are coming to Bangladesh, we’ll have to make sure we have to deal with this kind of umpiring and accordingly, we’ll have to prepare ourselves.” the India skipper added.
