Team India held their nerve to record a 12-run win against New Zealand in the first ODI at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Shubman Gill smashed a stupendous double century. He made 208 off 149 balls. He was assisted by captain Rohit Sharma 34 off 38 balls. Suryakumar Yadav 31 off 26 balls and Hardik Pandya 28 off 28 balls to help the Men in Blue reach 340-9.

India were in troubled waters at 175-4 when Hardik Pandya came out to bat, he struck in and put up a valuable 74-run partnership with Shubman Gill. Shubman Gill became the fifth Indian to score a double ton

Daryl Mitchell bowled a ball that was angled in and beat Hardik Pandya’s outside edge and it was very close to the stumps. It was adjudged bowled and Hardik was given out after the Kiwis appealed. The umpire deemed that the ball had clipped the bails, and the light had turned on before being caught by the wicketkeeper When the Tv replays came on it was found that the bails were taken out by the wicket keepers gloves and not the ball. The fans and experts were not happy with the way the dismissal had turned out and Pandya also was fuming when he was given out by the umpire.

Pandya’s wife Natasa Stankovic shared a clip of the incident on her Instagram stories and expressed her anger over his controversial dismissal. She posted ” There was no bat involved, wasn’t bowled out. So how’s this out?”. Her post on the incident took social media by storm. Gill was awarded the player of the match for his outstanding innings. He beat Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan to become the fastest Indian batter to get to 1000 runs in ODIs.
