‘Hard Work Pays Off’ – Fans react to KL Rahul’s emotional statement on struggles before spectacular comeback to form
KL Rahul was the star of the show on Sunday in India’s six-wicket win over Australia in Chennai. The 31-year-old scored 97 not out and helped India win the game and register its first points of ODI World Cup 2023.
2023 has been a difficult year for KL Rahul as he had to battle issues on and off the field. The Indian wicket-keeper was named the man of the match for his splendid efforts with the bat. The right-handed batter also was good behind the stumps and took a sharp catch to dismiss Marnus Labuschagne.
At the end of the game, KL Rahul gave out a pretty emotional statement. It seemed the win over Australia seemed to lift a cloud over his head which had been hanging for the last few months.
KL Rahul’s emotional statement after India’s win –
Moments after India opened its ODI World Cup 2023 campaign with a win KL Rahul named the player of the match. The 31-year-old scored an unbeaten 97 runs with 8 fours and 2 sixes. Rahul and Virat Kohli had added 165 runs for the 4th wicket after India were 2/3 against the rampaging Australian seam attack.
Speaking to Star Sports at the end of the game, KL Rahul said “There was a lot of criticism, people were commenting on my performance in every match and situation, and I wasn’t able to understand why it was happening, because my performance wasn’t that bad”.
KL Rahul also broke the silence on the long injury lay-off he had. “So that was very painful I know the pain of going through an injury and the process of coming back initially, and then I had an injury during the IPL, and when I found out I’ll be losing 4-5 months, being a part of the World Cup was also not a 100% sure so that was a very difficult time”
The right-hander batter from Karnataka made a triumphant return during the 2023 Asia Cup and scored a century against Pakistan. Despite an injury-laden 2023 and also losing his test spot KL Rahul didn’t give up and came back in style. The Indian fans will now look for some more Rahul magic when they play on Wednesday against the Afghans.
