The 2023 ODI World Cup will be held in India for the second time since 2011. India’s ODI form has been up and down. The Men in Blue lost an ODI series 2-1 against Bangladesh in 2022 and also they lost 3-0 to Australia at home. India however have registered series wins against New Zealand and Sri Lanka on home soil. The Rohit Sharma side will want to look at the 2023 ODI World Cup as a big opportunity to end their 9-year trophy drought.

Looking ahead to the tournament, Harbhajan Singh stated a few players to watch out for in the Indian Team. Harbhajan did not put a lot of spotlight on either Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma but he said Shubman Gill will be an important cog in the wheel for the Men in Blue. The former Indian cricketer then added that Rohit needs to deliver the goods if India have to go all the way in the 2023 ODI World Cup. When it comes to bowling, Harbhajan picked Ravindra Jadeja as his trump card for the Men in Blue.

“If I talk about India, it comes back to your opening partnership. A lot will depend on Rohit Sharma. Shubman Gill – I hope he is part of the team. It will be unfortunate if you don’t play him,” Harbhajan told Star Sports. “I think Shubman Gill will be the key. He bats extremely well in Indian conditions. In bowling, Ravindra Jadeja, if he fires like we saw in the IPL, where he picked up more than 20 wickets,” he added.

Harbhajan also talked about the Australian team who have been giants when it comes to winning World Cups. “If you are talking about Australia, I would like to take Green’s name. Cameron Green will be very, very dangerous. He brings not just batting but also bowling and fielding – unbelievable talent,” he said. “He (Green) has played in India. He played exceptionally well in the IPL. He knows the conditions and he can be very dangerous there. Then if you talk about Zampa, he can be another addition who can be extremely dangerous. I think these will be the key players for India and Australia,” Harbhajan added.
