Indian women’s team has qualified for the semifinal of the 2023 Asian Games, as the match against Malaysia ended without a result due to the interruption of rain. Since India was the top-seeded side, they qualified straightly to the semifinal despite the result not emerging from the match. India will have to wait for their opponents in the semis, which will be decided based on the results of the other matches.

In the quarterfinal match against Malaysia, India batted first in the rain-affected match. The number of overs was reduced to 15 overs per side. Batting first, India batted extremely well and scored 173 runs for the loss of 2 wickets. Every batter from India batted well. Smriti Mandhana scored 27 runs in 16 balls, which included 5 boundaries.

Shafali Verma was the star of the show. The 19-year-old scored 67 runs in 39 balls and helped India to score runs aggressively. The Indian opener scored 4 boundaries and 5 sixes in her explosive innings. At number 3, Jemimah Rodrigues scored an unbeaten 47*(29) and helped India to cross over 150 runs. The 23-year-old hit 6 boundaries in her stay in the middle. But the star of the show turned out to be Richa Ghosh, who played a brisk cameo down the order.

Great finishing from India against Malaysia in the Asian Games 2023

After being promoted to number 4 to finish things, the 19-year-old scored 21 runs in just 7 balls. The knock of Ghosh came at a strike rate of 300.00. The wicketkeeper batter hit 3 boundaries and a six against Malaysia. A collective effort from the batting unit meant that India scored 173 runs in their 15 overs. Malaysia had no answer to the batting of the Indian women. Baring the new ball duo of Ainna Hamizah Hashim and Mahirah Izzati Ismail, all the other bowlers conceded over 10 runs per over in their spells.

Chasing the target, Malaysia scored a run in 2 balls, before rain interrupted the match. Eventually, the match did not have a result, as rain did not stop. As India was the top-seeded side, they proceeded further for the semifinal of the tournament. Till the 24th of September, India do not have their match.
