Rising star Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his impressive run in Test cricket, scoring a scintillating century on the opening day of the second Test against England in Visakhapatnam. Batting with maturity and aggression, the left-hander notched up his second Test hundred in just his sixth match. Even in the previous Test match, Jaiswal played a magnificent innings, scoring 80 but this time around, he made sure to convert it into a triple-figure score.

Jaiswal, who had a dream debut with a century against West Indies last year, began cautiously against the English attack. He weathered the early storm created by James Anderson, showcasing his solid technique and patience. As he settled in, his strokeplay flourished. He drove fluently off the front foot, pulled with authority, and unleashed some delightful flicks and cuts on the leg side.

Nervous 90s non-existent for Jaiswal!

While he was involved in crucial partnerships with all the batters, the biggest one was a 100-run stand that he shared with Shreyas Iyer before the latter was dismissed by Tom Hartley. The 23-year-old reached his well-deserved hundred in style, launching a Tom Hartley delivery over the ropes for a six. The Visakhapatnam crowd erupted in jubilation, acknowledging the arrival of a special talent. His knock, a magnificent unbeaten 141 off 204 deliveries, has been laced with 15 fours and 4 sixes, displaying both power and finesse. His brilliance earned him appreciation from various ex-cricketers including the great man, Sachin Tendulkar who took to social media to applaud Jaiswal’s innings.

Jaiswal will now be looking to make use of the flat conditions and ensure that he converts the hundred into a massive score. Currently occupying the crease with him is debutant Rajat Patidar, who has also looked confident during his short stay at the crease so far. However, the right-hander was dismissed just after the Tea break on 32. But with a long way to go in the match and series, Jaiswal’s century has set the tone for a thrilling encounter. At the moment, India’s score is 249-3 and the hosts will be looking to pile on the runs without losing too many wickets by the end of the day.

Here’s how ‘netizens’ reacted to Jaiswal’s magnificent ton:
