It’s difficult to succeed in the cutthroat business where so many talented people are vying for attention, but actors like Jackie Shroff, Ayushmann Khurrana, and Shah Rukh Khan have shown time and time again that outsiders can succeed. One such actress, who has acted in multiple successful films, lived in Chawl for twenty-five years.  The actress in question made her Bollywood debut alongside a superstar and collaborated with Rajkumar Hirani on two successful films. Despite her success, the actress lived in a chawl. Yes, we are talking about none other than Priya Bapat.

At the age of fourteen, Priya Bapat, an Indian actress, made her feature debut with Mammootty in the film ‘Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’. Later on, she collaborated with Rajkummar Hirani on his popular films, including ‘Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.’ Among the cast of the 2003 smash hit film were Arshad Warsi, Boman Irani, and Sunil Dutt. Additionally, she made a brief cameo in ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai.’ The actress once disclosed in an interview that she continued to live in a chawl on Ranade Road in Dadar even after making her Bollywood debut.

Priya Bapat reveals the truth:

The actress previously revealed in a Times of India interview that she lived in a chawl for 25 years, from childhood to marriage. She said, “I have lived in that chawl for almost twenty-five years. There, I remained until I got married. This chawl has brought back many memories for me, from playing games with my friends as a child to celebrating Diwali together.”

She went on, “This chawl’s unique feature was that every house on a floor was internally connected to every other house via doors. As a result, moving from one house to another without leaving the building was simple. The families on the floor remained connected to one another thanks to this system. In addition, I think that the modern flat system has made people more apart from one another. It depends on the needs of a person.”

When asked which she preferred—a posh flat or a chawl? She replied, “As development occurs, so do the requirements. Even though I live in a lavish flat now, Chawl will always be my first love.”

The actress’s journey has not been easy; she is currently among the highest-paid Marathi actresses, reportedly charging Rs 8 lakh per film. The actress once disclosed in a Bollywood Hungama interview that she received her first paycheck and faced the camera when she was in sixth standard. In addition, the actress disclosed that she had to go through 100 rejections prior to receiving her very first TV ad.
