In the exciting clash between South Africa and Australia in the ODI World Cup 2023 semi-final at Eden Gardens, the game hit a pause button due to rain. The Proteas, facing the mighty Aussies, were eager to showcase their skills, but the weather had other plans.

Even before the match started, the sky looked gloomy, hinting that rain might interfere. The toss became a crucial factor, and everyone anticipated that the team winning the toss would choose to bowl first to exploit the favourable conditions. To everyone’s surprise, Temba Bavuma, the Proteas captain, won the toss and decided to bat first. His decision was based on the team’s success in setting huge targets in previous World Cup games.

Tough start for Proteas: Rain disrupts semi-final battle against Australia!

However, the decision seemed to backfire as Mitchell Starc dismissed Temba Bavuma himself in the very first over for a duck. Star batter Quinton de Kock couldn’t replicate his World Cup brilliance, scoring only 3 runs off 14 deliveries, falling victim to Josh Hazelwood.

Markram followed suit, contributing 10 runs in 20 balls before being dismissed by Mitchell Starc. Rassie van der Dussen, another top performer in the World Cup, faced a similar fate, scoring just 6 runs off 31 deliveries, with Hazelwood claiming his second wicket.

As the Proteas found themselves at 44/4, trying to steady the ship with H. Klaasen and David Miller at the crease, rain intervened, putting a temporary halt to the proceedings in the 14th over. The teams and fans anxiously awaited a break in the weather to resume the thrilling semi-final encounter.
