On Tuesday, January 30, West Indies cricketer Chris Gayle congratulated Sarfaraz Khan on the young batter’s first call-up to India via social media. In his typical style, Gayle wished the Indian batter the best of luck in his Test career in an Instagram story.

Sarfaraz Khan earned his much-anticipated India call-up for the second Test against England in Visakhapatnam on Monday. Sarfaraz was previously ignored, but the Mumbai batter continued to pound on the selector’s doors with his steady performance in domestic cricket and opportunities to represent India A.

“Go, get em, Sarfaraz Khan,” Chris Gayle posted in his Instagram story, besides a picture of himself and Sarfaraz Khan. Chris Gayle and Sarfaraz Khan were teammates at Royal Challengers Bangalore and Punjab Kings at near the end of his IPL career. Chris Gayle has long expressed his admiration for Sarfaraz Khan, describing him as one of the best young batters in the country. Gayle anticipated Sarfaraz’s destiny as a superstar in Indian cricket as early as 2016.

“We get along nicely. Sarfaraz continues texting me. He is too young, but he is like a son to me. “He’s definitely one for the future, and we should keep an eye on him,” Gayle said.

Sarfaraz overjoyed after coming to know about his Test selection

Sarfaraz was added to India’s team for the second Test after Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul were ruled out with injuries. India’s roster now includes Mumbai’s batsman, Uttar Pradesh left-arm spinner Sourabh Kumar, and Tamil Nadu all-rounder Washington Sundar.

Sarfaraz will likely contend for a position in the XI in the second Test alongside Rajat Patidar, who has been travelling with the squad since the first Test.

Sarfaraz was overjoyed after coming to know about his Test selection on Monday. On his Instagram account, Sarfaraz Khan shared a selfie with his father as well as a celebration song. He also practised at a small pitch in Mumbai early on Tuesday before joining the squad in Visakhapatnam.
