Glenn McGrath gives his verdict on Shubman Gill’s controversial dismissal in the WTC final
India lost the World Test Championship final (WTC) to Australia by 209 runs. But the big taking point in the match turned out to be Shubman Gill’s controversial dismissal that took place in the second innings. The on-field umpires sent it to Richard Kettleborough without any soft signal because of change in rules. Third umpire Kettleborough concluded that Green had fingers underneath the ball and was in full control of the catch before his left hand was dragged on the grass and hence, Gill had to walk back to the pavilion.
Gill was absolutely miffed when he was given out and later expressed his displeasure about the same through an Instagram post. Gill was fined 100% of his match fees for his unsporting conduct. Now Glenn Mcgrath also has given his two cents on the catch. “I think most of those catches are out. We find ways to give it not out which I like to go the other way. So, I was happy with it.” McGrath said as quoted by Hindustan Times.

“And if it was India taking that catch, I would have been happy too. I’m not just saying from an Australian perspective but the way it goes.” he added. Gill did not have the best of times at the WTC final as he scored 13 off 15 balls in the first innings and 18 off 19 balls with two fours. India lost their second WTC final against the Kangaroos after losing the 2021 WTC final against New Zealand.
“It (WTC) was a perfect lead-up for Australia into the Ashes, gives them a lot of confidence and to play in the conditions. So, I think they are in a good spot. “England, there’s a lot of talk about Bazball and I’m a big fan. I like that backing yourself, going out there, being positive, fourth innings to go out and play your shot, it’s an aggressive mindset, and if you can get on top of the bowlers, you can score runs quickly and put the pressure back on them. Mcgrath said talking about the upcoming Ashes.
