‘Gestures like these make cricket beautiful’- Fans react as Australia captain Pat Cummins exchanges his jersey with Shamar Joseph’s autographed one
West Indies registered their first victory against Australia on their home turf after 27 years as they beat them by 8 runs. Ironically this victory also came at the Gabba which was known as Australia’s fortress until it was breached by India in 2021.
After losing the first match of the series one-sidedly, West Indies were down and out and were discarded by many cricket pundits before the second and final day-night test. But the spirited West Indies made a stellar comeback and defeated the Australian team by 8 runs in a thrilling encounter.
Shamar Joseph lights up Gabba with his bowling
Shamar Joseph who turned out to be the find of the series decimated the Australian batting in the second innings by picking up 7 wickets. The young West Indian pacer who made his debut in the first match of the series picked up 13 wickets in the two matches of the series but more than that what won the hearts of many cricket fans.
He had to be taken out of the field as he got by a Mitchell Starc bouncer on the third day of the match but he made a sensational comeback the next day picking 7 wickets for the Australian team which made the opposition captain his fan too.
As the match got over, Australian captain Pat Cummins exchanged his jersey with a signed jersey from Sharmah Joseph and acknowledged the latter’s inspirational comeback on the cricket field. Australia lost the second match of the series despite of Steve Smith’s heroics in the second innings which leveled the two-match series by 1-1.
