Indian batter Smriti Mandhana was bought by the Bangalore franchise for INR 3.4 crore before the inaugural season of the Women’s T20 League and, thereby, became the most expensive player in the tournament. Later, she was appointed as the skipper of the franchise for the 2023 season.

However, Mandhana wasn’t able to deliver with the bat as she finished the first season of the tournament without any half-century. She couldn’t take the innings, further, even after a good start in some games. She finished the season with 149 runs from eight matches with an average of just 18.6. Mandhana also didn’t had a great season as the skipper as Bangalore lost their first five matches, consecutively, which resulted in their exclusion from the race for the top three.

Bangalore lost their last match of the season to Mumbai

Bangalore also ended their season with a 4-wicket loss against Mumbai in their last match of 2023 Women’s T20 League. Mumbai registered their sixth win of the season and moved to the top of the points table again. However, the final standings will be decided after Delhi’s upcoming match with UP.

Batting first at DY Patil stadium, Bangalore could only post 125 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their 20 overs. Mandhana got out after scoring 25 runs off 25 balls. Ellyse Perry also didn’t look in great touch as she got out after scoring 29 runs off 38 balls. However, Richa Ghosh scored some quick runs, in the end, to take the team’s total beyond 100. Ghosh got out after scoring 29 off 13 balls, with three fours and two sixes.

For Mumbai, Amelia Kerr scalped 3 wickets in her spell of four overs conceding 22 runs. While Nat Sciver-Brunt and Issy Wong shared 2-2 wickets each. Saika Ishaque scalped one.

Mumbai has a dramatic start as Hayley Matthews was given LBW out by the umpire on the very first ball of the innings by Megan Schutt. However, the batter decided to review the decision and the decision was changed as the balls were clearly missing the stumps.

After that, Matthews (24 off 17) and Yastika Bhatia (30 off 26) added 53 runs for the first wicket inside six overs. Mumbai went on to chase the winning total by losing 6 wickets with 21 balls remaining. Kerr remained unbeaten on 31 runs off 27 balls, hitting four boundaries.
