Gautam Gambhir sends fiery message to KL Rahul’s critics ahead of Indian T20 League
KL Rahul has hit the headlines again as he continues to battle an up and down patch of form. He was dropped from the Test side. In the series against Australia after the second Test. Rahul was also no longer the vice-captain in the Indian Test side. Rahul still remains a part of the Indian ODI side as middle-order batter and keeper. His bad patch of form had led former players such as Venkatesh Prasad question his credentials.
Gautam Gambhir has hit back at Rahul’s critics and put out a strong statement in favour of Rahul. The former India batter said that Rahul had taken Lucknow to the playoffs in the last Indian T20 League edition. He said the opener will not be under pressure coming into the Indian T20 League and he was confident of Rahul coming back to form.

What kind of pressure? Last time we (Lucknow Super Giants) finished at No. 3 and it was a tough fight between RR and LSG. Obviously, only one team can lift the trophy. And Gujarat won the IPL, they played excellent cricket last season. And if you take a look at the performance of Lucknow in their debut season, they finished 3rd only because of the NRR. If you finish 2nd in IPL, you get 2 chances at the playoffs,” Gambhir told Sports Tak.
Sometimes ex-cricketers need some masala to remain active. So that’s why you criticise people. According to me, the kind of player KL is, he won’t be under any kind of pressure. You can’t win a tournament with one player. The 25 players who are inside the dressing room help you win the tournament,” Gambhir added. Rahul had scored 616 runs in Indian T20 League 2022. The Karnataka batter also hit two tons against Mumbai.
Under the leadership of Rahul and under Gambhir’s mentorship Lucknow came third in the points table in 2022. The franchise had won nine games and lost five of them. Moshin Khan was the find of the season for them last year. Lucknow had a wonderful debut in the Indian T20 League and will look to carry forward the momentum.
