The 2nd of April, 2011, is a date forever etched in the hearts of Indian cricket fans. It was on this night, at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, that India lifted the Cricket World Cup for the second time. he atmosphere that night was electric. The stadium was packed to the rafters, with a sea of blue jerseys cheering on their team. The tension was palpable as India chased down Sri Lanka’s total of 274.

The chase was not an easy one, as India lost two early wickets, the giants Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag. However, Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli steadied the ship, putting on a crucial partnership. Though Kohli was dismissed for 35, Gambhir continued to anchor the innings, scoring a magnificent 97.

MS Dhoni, known for his calm and composed demeanor under pressure, showcased his captaincy skills and batting prowess. He played a crucial knock of 91, including the iconic six off Nuwan Kulasekara that sealed the victory and sent the entire nation into a frenzy. Yuvraj Singh, who had been phenomenal throughout the tournament, contributed with a valuable 21 runs to guide India home.

Did Dhoni’s promotion deny Yuvraj a World Cup Final century?: Gambhir ignites debate.

One of the most talked-about decisions in cricket history was made during that game- MS Dhoni’s surprise promotion to number 5 in the 2011 World Cup final against Sri Lanka. This move, which came at the expense of the in-form Yuvraj Singh, continues to spark debate and discussion even today.

Speaking about it recently, Gautam Gambhir said that while Dhoni scored an unbeaten 91, yuvraj singh would have notched up a century had he come out to bat at number 5 instead. He also added that he was quite surprised to see the Indian skipper walk out ahead of Yuvraj.

“I genuienly believe that if Yuvraj Singh had come to bat instead of MS Dhoni in 2011 World Cup final, he would have definitely got a hundred. Because the kind of form Yuvraj was in the tournament, and the kind of pitch it was, as I said, I was a bit surprised to see Dhoni at number 5. I am 100 percent sure, MS scored 90-odd runs but Yuvi would have definitely got a hundred the way he was batting,” he said.
