The Women’s T20 league kicks off in India on March 4, 2023. The first match will be played between Mumbai and Gujarat at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. The League will be entirely held in two venues and a total of 22 matches will be played. The two grounds will host the entire tournament.

Reports have come in that the Women’s T20 League match between Mumbai and Bangalore, which is to be held on March 6, has begun on a wonderful note as all the tickets have been sold out. Such ominous signs are wonderful for women’s cricket and one would hope that it will only get better from here.

The five teams were brought in a closed bidding system, namely Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Gujarat and Ahmedabad. All five teams have Indian T20 league franchises as well so this could lead to easy streamlining and management of the Women’s sides as well.

The teams will have two reviews per innings in the Women’s T20 League

The tournament will have four double headers and all sides will get to play eight games in the league stage. The squads have 15-18 members each and this includes six overseas players. Four overseas players are allowed in the XI. If there is an associate overseas player then up to five players will be allowed in the XI.

The teams will have two reviews per innings and all the technologies such as ultra edge and hawk eye technologies will be available. The tournament will be a great platform for Indian domestic players to interact with overseas stars. The Women’s 20-20 Challenge used to be sandwiched and held earlier along with the Indian T20 League.

When it comes to the first match, the Mumbai side will be captained by Harmanpreet Kaur and the Gujarat side will be captained by Beth Mooney. The sides boast wonderful players such as Hayley Mathews, Heather Graham, Sophia Dunkley, Ashleigh Gardner, Harleen Deol, Yastika Bhatia and the like. The match promises to be an entertaining clash. An Opening ceremony will be held to inaugurate the tournament.
