Delhi Capitals were once again in the bottom two in the IPL points standings after a period of improvement. DC has won the wooden spoon a record four times, more than any other team, and if it weren’t for Sunrisers Hyderabad’s similarly terrible season, DC might have placed last once again rather than ninth.

DC was unable to decipher the code to success despite the leadership of coach Ricky Ponting as well as director Sourav Ganguly, arguably two of the finest captains in the annals of international cricket.

As a result of Rishabh Pant’s absence, a jumbled fighting lineup, and losses in games where they were ahead, DC had a miserable season and was unable to advance to the playoffs.

What did Sunil Gavaskar say about Ricky Ponting’s style of coaching?

All six of the clubs, including the Capitals, who failed to advance to the final four must reflect as yet another campaign comes to a conclusion. First off, the illustrious Sunil Gavaskar believes that DC’s coach Ponting was one of the causes why they fell short.

Gavaskar believes Ponting’s tutoring accidentally did DC more harm than good, which is in no way an insult to what the former Australia skipper has accomplished as an international cricket player and captain.

Sunil Gavaskar wrote about the team and the coach in his article on Sportstar. He said,

“So now it’s the playoffs, and there are four teams left standing to try and take the coveted IPL trophy home. Will we have a champion that has never won the trophy before, or is the experience of the big finals going to help the teams that have won it earlier? Those who have missed out will be doing post-mortems as to why they couldn’t progress and why they faltered. Ideally, such an analysis should be done after a few days have passed after the finals, for then it is more likely to be a reasoned one and not an emotional one,”
