MS Dhoni was one of the revolutionary cricketers for India. Before the boy from Ranchi came into the picture, the Indian team hardly had a wicketkeeper who could make his place in the side due to their batting. Dhoni was one such player, who came from a small town like Ranchi, which inspires a lot of cricketers from small towns to take up cricket as a career option.

The entry of Dhoni to the Indian team meant a good balance to the side, as he could perform in dual roles for the team. As a result, India could play a genuine batter or a bowler as per the requirements, which was not possible before him. People who have watched him closely know the struggles behind the talent of the legend.

Without the help of many former cricketers and coaches, the growth of Dhoni would have been impossible in cricket. To date, the CSK captain credits those who have helped him become the cricketer he aspired to become. One such person who helped the former Indian captain was Saba Karim, who is well-known in the domestic circuit and as a selector.

Saba Karim’s comments on MS Dhoni

In an interview, Karim said “The first time I saw MS Dhoni, it was his second year in the Ranji Trophy. He used to play for Bihar. I saw him batting and keeping, and I still remember while he was batting, he had that brilliance which we even saw later, playing big, lofted shots to a spinner or a pace bowler,” and praised Dhoni.

“For wicket-keeping, the footwork that one should have was lacking a bit. We worked with him on this at that time, and the greatness of MS Dhoni lies in this that he still remembered what he was taught then. When we chatted, he would speak about it. It was a turning point in MS’ career where he got going. In one-dayers, we started to let him open because his batting was so strong and he used to get quick runs,” he added.
