Former Rajasthan spinner, Ajit Chandila’s life ban has been reduced to seven years. He was one of the three players from the Rajasthan team to be allegedly involved in spot-fixing. Alongside Chandila, players such as Sreesanth, and Ankit Chavan were also banned for life due to the same reason. A few years back, the former India pacer, Sreesanth ban was reduced to seven years which ended in 2019.

The two-time World Cup winner for India played First Class cricket before retiring from the game last year. Meanwhile, talking about Chandila, his ban was overturned by the Indian Cricket Board’s Ombudsman Vineet Saran a couple of years back. Not to forget, Sreesanth and Chavan’s ban was also overturned at the time. Meanwhile, Chandila’s ban was completed on January 18 this year. This means he can now play the game.

“The present matter arises out of Case Crime No 20/2013 dated 09.05.2013 registered with the Special Cell of Dell Police against the Applicant on allegations of spot fixing in cricket matches of Indian T20 League (“ITL”). Pending inquiry, Indian Cricket Board suspended the Applicant from all cricketing activities on 17.05.2013. Apart from the criminal proceedings initiated against the Applicant, Disciplinary proceedings were also initiated against him by the Indian management. Accordingly, the Applicant’s Representation dated 04.11.2019 is accepted and his prayer for granting him parity with Sreesanth and Ankeet Chavan is allowed. The life ban imposed on him by Order of Indian Board’s Disciplinary Committee dated 18.01.2016 is reduced to a period of seven (7) years from 18.01.2016,” as reported by The Indian Express.

Sreesanth’s ban was imposed on circumstantial evidence: Justice A Muhamed Mustaque

Meanwhile, a few years ago, Justice Mustaque said that there was no incriminating evidence against Sreesanth for spot-fixing. In 2015, the Delhi court acquitted Sreesanth of all charges. However, the Indian board slapped a life-term ban on him.
