Former Phoenix Sun’s coach Monty Williams reveals that he detested mentoring Jae Crowder and Deandre Ayton

Monty Williams stint as the head coach of Phoenix Suns came to an end after the side suffered an exit in the second round in the NBA Playoffs. He has now switched bases from Suns to Detroit Pistons. In a series of startling revelations, he has talked about coaching certain players from the suns side. It was good stint for Williams at Suns as he won two finals in 2021.

Even as the Suns had a decent amount of success, they were not able to make it count in the long run. They did not bond well as a team which made it difficult for them to make it to the NBA finals. In a series of stunning revelations, it was found out that Williams did not take a liking when it came to coaching Jae Crowder and Deandre Ayton. John Gambadoro shede light on why the two players and the coach had such a frosty relationship.

“The Jae Crowder situation was all on Monty. He told people he was too difficult to handle and coach. Monty didn’t want Jae. It wasn’t the Suns organization. He didn’t want Jae around,” Gambadoro said. “As far as Deandre Ayton, Monty didn’t want him either. He wanted them to trade him to Indiana for Myles Turner. He didn’t like coaching Ayton. he added. “When Ayton signed his maximum contract when the Suns matched his offer sheet, Monty wasn’t even there and didn’t show up when Ayton signed it at the arena or call him to say congratulations.”

Crowder came in as a mid-season trade when the Suns also got in Kevin Durant.  When it came to Ayton, There was a lot of talk that  he  could move from the Suns to another club from the past three seasons. But the Suns have not made things concrete and thus Ayton has still remained with the Suns. He finished his fifth season with the Suns averaging 18.0 points,  with 10.0 rebounds, and 1.7 assists for the side.
