ODI World Cup 2023

Former England captain Michael Vaughan gives his prediction for ODI World Cup 2023

Michael Vaughan picked his semifinalists for ODI World Cup 2023.

Michael Vaughan has given his prediction for the ODI World Cup 2023. The former England captain took to X (Formerly known as Twitter) and mentioned his excitement for the big tournament. Vaughan picked his 4 semifinalists in the ODI World Cup 2023. The former England cricketer picked India, England, South Africa, and Pakistan as his 4 semifinalists.

Vaughan wrote on his social media account “Can’t wait for the World Cup to start this week… My 4 semi-finalists will be … England, South Africa, India and Pakistan,” and gave his prediction for the tournament. The prediction of Vaughan has received mixed opinions from the fans. While some called his prediction a brave one, others dismissed it pointing out the exclusion of Australia and New Zealand.

Though one could have understood leaving out New Zealand, given their not-so-good form coming to the tournament, and the number of injuries that have hit their camp, one could not understand the motive behind leaving out a side like Australia, who always remain one of the mainstays in the ODI World Cups. Vaughan’s decision to exclude Australia has not gone well with the fans of the game.

Other picks of Vaughan seem to be obvious. India is currently ranked number 1 in the world in ODIs. There are huge expectations from the fans and cricket fraternity that India would be making it to at least semifinal of the tournament, given the form of their players and recent records. Pakistan is the second ranked team in the world. But they are hit by the injury of Naseem Shah and the inconsistency of some of their batters.

England, much like India, seem to be one of the favorites to win the World Cup. the balance of the side is incredible with a lot of multi-dimensional cricketers. The batting is the real strength of England. South Africa might be one of the dark horses in the tournament. The proteas have hit their form right before the World Cup. Under Aiden Markram, South Africa seem to be a very good team.
