Former Australian cricketer Mark Taylor has lauded Virat Kohli for his heroic knock against Pakistan in the 20-20 World Cup 2022. While praising the knock, the Australian highlighted the six that Virat Kohli hit to Haris Rauf in the penultimate over of the match.

“I still rate the one at MCG where he hit Haris Rauf for a six back over his head, off the back foot, with a straight bat,” Taylor said. “It still went 90 metres. I can’t still work it out how that ball went for a six.” Taylor said during a chat on Wide World of Sports.

“I reckon if I hit that shot, mid-on would have been running in, diving in to take a catch!”, he added.

In the same show, Ian Chappell recalled an old conversation with Virat Kohli where the latter revealed why he doesn’t like to try unconventional shots in the shortest format of the game.

That’s one of the amazing things about Virat Kohli: Chappell

“We did an interview with Virat Kohli, couple of years ago. It was a magnificent example of talking about the game. When we asked Virat about why don’t you use some of the fancy shots, he said, ‘I don’t want them to creep into my Test game’. That’s one of the amazing things about Virat Kohli. He makes all these runs at a very good rate, and he does it with normal cricketing shots,” Chappell said.

India’s former captain, Virat Kohli has been in sensational form. Kohli came into the World Cup on the back of impressive performances in the Asia Cup and also in the home series against Australia and South Africa. India’s run machine began his campaign with a match-winning 82 against Pakistan and followed it up with two more half-centuries against the Netherlands and Bangladesh.

In the last match against Bangladesh, Kohli notched an unbeaten knock of 64 runs in just 44 balls, including 8 fours and a six. He is currently the leading run-scorer in the tournament, with 220 runs to his name in 4 matches at an average of 220.00 and a strike rate of 144.74.
