There is always a belief in faith and destiny and that strong belief takes you places. A prime example of this is Venkatesh Iyer who made the world take notice of him when he had a great second half in the 2021 edition of the Indian T20 League. He had a blockbuster season for Kolkata and the left-hander was touted as Hardik Pandya’s backup for the allrounder slot in the Indian Team.

Venkatesh Iyer had a great start and delivered the goods in the home series against New Zeeland, West Indies, and Sri Lanka but post that he has recorded a lull in form. He could not regain the form that he had in the 2021 edition of the Indian T20 League as he failed to impress in this year’s edition of the tournament.

His drop in form coincided with Hardik Pandya‘s superb comeback, which led to Iyer’s absence from the Indian squad.

In an interaction, Iyer spoke about how he focuses on following the process and not thinking too much about the performances. He said: “As long as I am clear with my process and have approached the game in the right way both physically and mentally, the result doesn’t matter. Sometimes you don’t approach the game with the right process but still end up getting runs and that’s not satisfying either.”

Iyer continued: “For me, it is important that I go out there and retry my best and stick to my process. If I have done this then it doesn’t matter if I have scored 0,5,10 or 100.”

It is important to switch off from the game – Venkatesh Iyer

Venkatesh Iyer feels that better performances can come if one can switch off from the game. He further shed light on the importance of having different hobbies and interests which can help one to rejuvenate.

“I do a lot of things (to stay calm) but the most important thing is that I zone out from the game because it is important to know that my personal life is equally important.”

“I keep the game on the field, in the gym, and also in my thoughts. But off the field, I also make sure that I give time to my family and enjoy my life as well. I also study because I like that added skill to me. I am really fond of academics,” he elaborated.

Venkatesh Iyer is eager to come back with a bang and don the Indian colours once again.
