Dinesh Karthik, the Indian wicketkeeper, produced one of the greatest comebacks in Indian history after earning his national call-up on the back of proving his stupendous finishing prowess in the 2022 edition of the Indian T20 League.

In a recent Instagram video, Karthik penned an emotional note for Rohit Sharma, the Indian skipper, as he expressed his gratitude to the latter for backing him up throughout. The wicketkeeper, who was commentating when India toured England for the test series in 2021, is all set to don the Indian jersey in the 20-20 World Cup 2022.

With regard to the Instagram video, Karthik said in the caption that the Indian captain backed him up throughout and added that the opener showed him the way back to the Indian squad by reminding him that there is light at the end of the tunnel always.

“For a man who went through all this, believed in me and always had time for me and showed me there is light at the end of the tunnel for that I’m ever grateful, that for me is @rohitsharma45,” Karthik captioned the video that he posted. Apart from the Indian captain, Karthik also thanked Abhishek Nayar, the former cricketer, for helping him and the Australian legend Ricky Ponting for his wise words.

The rise of finisher for team India

Karthik’s role in Indian cricket is the simplest and also the toughest of all. In terms of facing fewer balls, the wicketkeeper’s role is to face 10 to 15 balls and in terms of runs, he is expected to score the maximum out of the least balls that he faces.

However, when the Men in Blue were struggling to find someone who could do the role, Karthik, at age 37, emerged from the ashes and stunned everyone with his abilities to finish things off for the team. With a strike rate of around 150 with the bat this year, Karthik made a statement for himself and to the world that he can fill the void that MS Dhoni left.
