Pakistan had a tough day in the middle against Afghanistan in the ODI World Cup 2023. In MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai, the Pakistani fielders and bowlers struggled against Afghanistan and found themselves in trouble against the young side. The ground fielding and catching was poor and the reaction of the Pakistan coach was apt, as one expected better standards of fielding at the highest level.
Opting to bat first, Pakistan scored 282 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 50 overs. Babar Azam scored fifty for Pakistan. If not for the lower-order flourish from the duo of Iftikhar Ahmed and Shadab Khan, Pakistan would not have got past the 250-run mark. Their canoes ensured that Pakistan stayed alive in the match. But it was not gonna be enough.
Afghanistan found their mojo right from the start. Rahmanullah Gurbaz just went after Pakistan’s bowlers for fun. In such situations, fielders had to be at their best to help the struggling bowlers. Instead, the level of fielding was poor, which actually frustrated the bowlers themselves. In turn, the coach was frustrated with both the fielding and bowling of Pakistan.

No limit to Mickey Arthur’s frustration against Pakistan fielders
In the pavilion, the Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur was seen getting frustrated with Pakistan’s efforts in the field. Initially, Arthur was frustrated with the bowling. But the poor fielding just made his life difficult. Arthur could not bear with Pakistan’s fielding and went back to the dressing room in frustration. It was not good to see. Arthur expected better from the fielders. Unfortunately, this was not the case.
The fielders dropped some catches and gave away easy runs. The ground fielding was rather poor. It helped Afghanistan to run away with the game. As Dew settled in, it did not help the bowlers in any way. In the process, Afghanistan clearly got a big upper hand in the game. As the bowlers continued to try and get wickets, Arthur was seemingly frustrated. Under helpful conditions, Afghanistan looked all set to defeat a side like Pakistan.
