Five cricketers involved in same-sex marriages

There have been a handful of openly gay cricketers in recent times.

Marriages are said to be made in heaven. But in recent times, a lot of barriers have been broken as far as marriages are concerned. there have been many cricketers who have married couples of the same gender. Such a marriage is known to be a Same-Sex marriage. By definition, Same-Sex marriage is nothing but the marriage of two persons of the same sex or gender, when entered into a civil or a religious ceremony. In the past, there was a huge criticism over it. But with the progression of time, the thoughts of people have changed gradually.

In many countries, same-sex marriage has been normalized. The LGBTQ communities still have a difficult time fighting for their rights. Some of the cricketers have shown the world by fighting for themselves. In a way, they have set the right example for the individuals to fight for their cause. Some of the proud cricketers married couples of their gender, against the will of the people and societal norms. When asked to reveal their choices, these cricketers did not hesitate to let the world know of it. The trend has been quite normal in women’s cricket.

Lynsey Askew and Alex Blackwell were one of the earliest same-sex couples in cricket. Blackwell played for Australia in her playing days. She played for Australia in 251 matches. The New South Wales-born cricketer was a highly experienced cricket and retired from international cricket in 2017. Blackwell led Australia for a brief period in her long career that lasted for 15 years. Back in time, Blackwell was declared a lesbian. In 2013, she became only the second cricketer after Steven Davies of England to be declared so.

In 2015, Blackwell married Lynsey Askew, a citizen of England. The two were in a relationship for 8 years before confirming the same to the world. Back in time, their marriage was not accepted in their respective countries. They were recognized as a couple by Australia in 2017. Blackwell always felt that the abilities of individuals do not depend on their sexuality. After the marriage of Blackwell, there was a revolution in sports culture. A total of 15 countries in the world pledged to support same-sex marriage, along with Australia.
