Pakistan was defeated by Sri Lanka by 64 runs in the Asia Cup 2008. Kumar Sangakkara’s century was backed by his bowlers. Bowling first Sohail Tanvir picked up a five-wicket haul but could not stop Sri Lanka to score 302 for 7. He got little support from the other bowlers, and the batsmen picked easy runs on a tough pitch for the batters.
Sangakkara scored his ninth ODI century and his second of the tournament. In a tough wicket, three decent partnerships with him were involved in boosting Sri Lanka to a 300-plus total. He and Chamara Kapugedera added 88 for the third wicket. In reply, Pakistan got off to a horrible start they lost their opener Salman Butt for a duck. The middle order could not live up to the expectation leading to a 64-run defeat.
